Core Values
- 1 Our goal will be end-to-end bond-centred service giving inclusive clinical, surgical and rehabilitation support to patients and seeking to augment the bonds between the owner and their animal friend and between ourselves and the referring clinician.
- 2 We realize that our legacy will be measured by what we contribute rather that what we earn and we are conscious of our responsibility to care for and respect biology and in so doing affirm the value and dignity of life.
- 3 Our professional lives, our emotional core and our clinical and surgical skills shall be totally dedicated to the alleviation of pain and the restoration of function.
- 4 We will exhaust all reasonable avenues to achieve the optimal outcome for each patient, cognizant of our perpetual responsibility to the physical and psychological wellbeing of our patients, which we recognize as sentient beings with a right to pain-free life.
- 5 We take seriously our responsibility to judge the fine line between suffering with hope of recovery where pain can be relieved and suffering where it is best to say goodbye to a beloved friend and we will never advise intervention because it is possible, but only where it is warranted and justified.
- 6 Achieving an acceptable quality of life for our patient as defined by the owner with our help is a central goal of our clinic.
- 7 Respect for the emotional needs and financial constraints of our clients will be a key concern. We will support our clients in their time of making and living with difficult decisions and give them the fullest possible information to make informed choices.
- 8 We will support our professional colleagues in every way we can at all times and will ensure that they remain fully informed such that they are integral to the care team for the patient to maintain continuity of care and optimize outcome.
- 9 We will at all times uphold the strictest code of moral and ethical conduct for the betterment of our patients and our profession.
- 10 We are committed to integration of ideas which may benefit our patients, to remain open-minded regarding all disciplines and to produce clinical research for the service of the medical and veterinary communities and those animals who may never be our patients. We will maintain the highest standards of clinical research integrity including accurately collected, precisely analyzed and honestly reported data.
- 11 Education is an investment in a better future and a tribute to past generations of patients, clients and scholars. Our educational mission embraces all those who come to us to learn – our clients, the public and our colleagues. We commit ourselves to further progress against disease by sharing the knowledge, skills and ethical values that are the foundation of our practice.
- 12 All who serve in our practice have specific tasks and roles, yet all are equal in their capacity to befriend patients and clients. Individually, each of us bears a moral obligation to our patients and our clients. We are honored to serve our patients, their owners and our professional colleagues and will treat all with a smile, a hug and a uniform ethos of care and compassion...
