Cat Stifle

This feline patient presented to the advanced diagnostic imaging department following a road traffic accident. The patient had an obvious injury to the stifle (knee) joint, however the complexity of the stifle joint meant that further imaging was required to help evaluate the severity of the injury. This 3-dimensional CT reconstruction of the stifle joint allowed the surgeon to rule out injuries to the bones of the stifle joint and helped confirm the injury was soft tissue in nature  – during surgical exploration it was confirmed that this patient had ruptured the supporting collateral ligaments and the cruciate ligaments in the stifle. Reconstructive surgery was carried out and this patient went on to make a successful recovery thanks to the  help of CT imaging in the pre-operative evaluation.
