As the Rehabilitation department continues to go from strength to strength we have added a state of the art under water treadmill to our rehabilitation offering. The underwater treadmill allows us to treat a wider range of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions using water based therapy.

After three years of dedicated training, several months of revision, learning a 2000 page surgical text from cover to cover and reading over 1200 scientific papers, Miguel Solano and Alex Caron, our surgical residents, sat down in the examination hall in Zurich earlier this month for the start of two days of intensive examinations with the hope of passing and becoming European Specialists in Small Animal Surgery (http://www.ecvs.org/home/).

Senior Practitioner Nurse at Fitzpatrick Referrals, Gillian Calvo, has recently been successful in the publication of her paper “Development of a behaviour based measurement tool with defined intervention level for assessing acute pain in cats” in the Journal of Small Animal Practice.

It is with profound sadness that we have allowed our lovely friend “Kayak” to pass away peacefully today. All of the nurses and clinicians involved are deeply sad as they had grown to know and love her in these past few days. We had all done our very best to support her both emotionally and physically over these difficult days, but unfortunately her ordeal had resulted in irreparable damage to her internal organs.
