Extra Mural Studies for veterinary students

Thank you for your interest in Fitzpatrick Referrals.

Our EMS scheme allows veterinary students to gain experience working in a practice dedicated to orthopaedics and neurology, to include advanced diagnostic imaging techniques and surgery.

Due to the high demand, we place a restriction of two weeks on the time spent visiting the clinic. To gain the most from the placement, we also request that applicants are in their fourth or final year of clinical studies when the placement commences.

Rotations are available in two-week blocks, during which the student will follow clinicians from each service. During this time students will be able to observe surgery on a daily basis. Exposure to the disciplines of anaesthesia and advanced diagnostic imaging will be achieved via time spent working with our intern team and our radiography / advanced diagnostic imaging department. The rotations start from 10am on the first Monday with the working day commencing at 9am for the remainder of the placement.

We do not offer accommodation, although there are a number of guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments nearby.

School / sixth form students

We are afraid that due to the commitment we make to help in the training of undergraduate veterinary students and the busy nature of referral practice we are unable to offer work experience placements to school and sixth form students in either the rehabilitation or veterinary centre.
