HR Generalist – Eashing

Fitzpatrick Referrals is looking for an experienced HR generalist to join their team. The HR generalist will provide first-line advice and support to line managers and employees to ensure the effective delivery of all operational day-to-day HR activities including employee relations, resource and talent planning and learning and development.

The role reports to the head of HR and will be based at our site in Eashing, near Godalming in Surrey.

Key responsibilities and tasks

HR advice

  • Provide first-line advice and guidance to line managers and employees in the application of HR policies and procedures, including but not limited to probation, leave, disciplinary and grievance matters, absence and performance management. This will include conducting investigations and formal meetings.
  • Resolve queries and escalate where these cannot be resolved.
  • Contribute towards the continuous improvement of our HR processes and procedures.

Resourcing and talent planning

  • Support the recruitment, selection and on-boarding of new employees. E.g. create recruitment campaigns, job descriptions, interviews and offers.
  • Responsibility for the leaver process including the creation of associated documentation.
  • Analyse and interpret leaver’s information and make recommendations for improvement.

Learning and development

  • Advise line managers on conducting training needs analysis, identifying appropriate training solutions and training plans.
  • Guideline managers on performance reviews and development discussions.
  • Deliver workshops around HR policies to line managers (existing and future).
  • Evaluate the success of induction programmes and training.
  • Oversee the apprenticeship programme and FR placement students

HR system

  • Deal with escalated queries from HR inbox and HR administrator
  • HR system updating and streamlining of processes.
  • Maintain HR documentation confidentially in line with the data protection act and UK GDPR, i.e. integrity and storage of files.
  • Review and benchmark pay and benefits.


  • Work with the other HR team members to deliver HR activities, including the development, execution and evaluation of HR metrics e.g. recruitment, development and performance management.
  • Provide holiday cover for the other team members including the HR administrator.
  • Assist with overflow of HR administration including new starter documentation.
  • In addition to your main duties, you will be required to carry out such other duties consistent with your position to meet the needs of the company and as the company may from time to time require.

Person specification

Essential skills and experience

  • CIPD qualified (level 5 or above, or hold equivalent HR qualification)
  • Working at advisory level, guiding, influencing and coaching managers
  • Handling a range HR/ER issues; performance, disciplinary, grievance, absence and TUPE
  • Working under pressure and to tight timescales
  • Skilled user of Microsoft Office software packages including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Able to multitask and support with overflow of work within the HR team e.g. administration and induction
  • Confident and self-motivated with a flexible approach to work
  • Act as a role model and lead by example
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Confidential, high level of integrity and discretion

Desirable experience

  • Supporting teams through times of change e.g. implementation of a new HR system, restructure etc.
  • Experience of working in an HR advisory role within an SME

This is a full-time 40-hour week position working Monday – Friday with some flexibility required to support all employees within this 24 hour / 365-day business.
