Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue (FROST) is a purpose-built specialist referral hospital in Guildford, Surrey dedicated to expert care and innovative clinical decision-making combined with compassionate communication. The facilities at FROST are state of the art and include a four operating theatres, 160-slice CT scanner, C-arm fluoroscopy unit, Interventional Radiology suite, minimally-invasive surgical equipment, cystoscopy/endoscopy/bronchoscopy, chemotherapy suite, ultrasonography, digital radiography and full in-house laboratory.
Applications are invited from veterinary surgeons with postgraduate experience for this newly created internship. These 12-month posts will prepare candidates for residency training and will provide training in all aspects of surgical oncology, soft tissue surgery, interventional radiology and medical oncology.
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Good written and spoken English
- Focus and determination
- Excellent communication skills with clients and colleagues and excellent interpersonal skills
- Organised and care-driven
- Able to work efficiently and effectively within a 24/7 team environment
- Strong references
- Membership of The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS)
- Preferably two years’ experience or completion of a rotating internship
This 12-month post will provide training in medical oncology, surgical oncology, soft tissue surgery and interventional radiology/oncology. Duties will involve daily collaboration with all clinical and non-clinical teams and you will be required to assist the specialist services with daily care of patients, consultations, client communication, diagnostic procedures and surgical procedures/interventions. Active involvement with clinical research is expected leading towards a peer-reviewed publication.
It is envisioned that this internship will help form an excellent foundation platform for further career progression, including application for potential residencies.
The successful candidate must be a graduated veterinary surgeon and preferably have completed a one-year rotating internship or at least two years of general small animal practice although consideration will be given to exceptional new graduates. The post is designed to prepare candidates for residency training. In addition, you will be care driven, have excellent communication skills, be exceptionally organised, thorough and be able to operate in a 24/7 team environment.
Duties are equally split between routine surgery, emergency surgery and night duties.
Accommodation is provided within 10 minutes’ drive of the practice and remuneration includes a competitive salary, 4 weeks’ vacation and 3 days of CPD.
