Internship – Oncology & Soft Tissue – Guildford

Apply by: 24 April 2018
Department: Internships

Following a highly successful inaugural 12-month programme, Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue is inviting applications from veterinary surgeons for four internship positions. You will join the current team of specialists (AVCS / ECVS / ACVIM / ECVIM / ECVDI), ECVS surgical residents, anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, oncology interns, nurses and auxiliaries.

Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue is a purpose-built specialist referral hospital dedicated to expert care and innovative clinical decision-making combined with compassionate communication. Our state-of-the-art facilities include a 160-slice CT scanner, C-arm fluoroscopy unit, Interventional Radiology suite, minimally-invasive surgical equipment, cystoscopy/endoscopy/bronchoscopy, chemotherapy suite, ultrasonography, digital radiography and full in-house laboratory.

This post will provide exposure and training in surgical oncology, medical oncology, soft tissue surgery, interventional radiology/oncology and diagnostic imaging. You will be required to assist with consultations, client communication, diagnostic procedures and surgical procedures/interventions alongside daily care of patients. Active involvement with clinical research is encouraged and weekly seminars augment clinical learning.

The successful candidate must be a graduated veterinary surgeon and preferably have completed a 12-month rotating internship or at least two years of general small animal practice (consideration will be given to exceptional new graduates). The post would be suitable for someone considering pursuing a residency position. In addition, you should be care driven, have excellent communication skills, be organised and be able to operate in a 24/7 team environment.

The four successful candidates will split duties equally between routine surgeries, emergency surgeries, interventional radiology and OOH night/weekend duties (time off in lieu).

Located in Guildford on the Surrey Research Park, our oncology and soft tissue hospital is ideally located adjacent to the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine, the St. Luke’s Cancer Centre, and The Royal Surrey Hospital. It is well served by both Gatwick and Heathrow airports and is within 30 minutes of central London via train.

Remuneration includes a competitive salary, workplace pension, 28 days holiday including bank holidays, and three days of CPD. Off-site accommodation is available if required. The internship class commences October 2018 but an earlier start date may be possible.
