Fitzpatrick Referrals currently sponsors residencies, internships and fellowships throughout the globe, and as part of our commitment to advancing this area of the profession, every year we offer qualified veterinary surgeons the opportunity to join the practice to complete a 12-month internship with Professor Noel Fitzpatrick (PNF).

- Membership of The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS)
- Preferably two years’ experience or completion of a rotating internship
The PNF team appointment is for 12 months and you will be immersed in diagnosing and managing patients requiring some of the most innovative and advanced orthopaedic procedures in the world. This includes total joint replacement; limb sparing using an endoprosthesis; spinal distraction fusion implants; and amputation prosthetics, all designed by PNF and manufactured by a team of dedicated bioengineers.
PNF interns will be responsible for consultations; client and primary care vet communication, diagnostic work-ups, perioperative care of PNF patients, they will ensure that rechecks and surgeries run to maximum efficiency, they will assist with PNF surgeries and aid rehabilitation of patients alongside our skilled rehabilitation team.
PNF interns are expected to play a key role within the clinical care team; they will attend daily didactic rounds with the full clinical team alongside specific rounds with PNF, they will attend weekly orthopaedic and neurology journal clubs, they will attend regular lectures given onsite in order to develop their understanding of orthopaedic problems and procedures in order to rapidly develop their skill base and they will attend weekly oncology rounds. PNF interns have the opportunity to be involved in clinical research projects and are encouraged to present their findings at scientific congresses with a view to eventual publication.
The Fitzpatrick Referrals PNF Internship Programme is designed to expose the participant to the complexity of advanced orthopaedics and neurosurgery and to allow the intern to pursue a residency. Fitzpatrick Referrals sponsors several residencies both in the UK and the USA and eligible candidates have graduated from an internship at Fitzpatrick Referrals to entry onto a Fitzpatrick Referrals sponsored residency programme.
The practice offers three surgery suites with advanced equipment for orthopaedic surgery including high definition arthroscopy. There are two digital radiology suites, CT scanner, and high field MRI. Full featured anaesthetic monitoring equipment including ECG, pulse oximetry, non-invasive blood pressure, and capnography compliment the surgical theatres. A state of the art kinetic and kinematic laboratory allows objective pre and post-operative gait analysis. Physical rehabilitation facilities include a dedicated physiotherapy area and large hydrotherapy suite. An in house diagnostic laboratory and advanced therapeutics are also available to further increase the quality of care to our patients.
It is envisioned that this internship will help form an excellent foundation platform for further career progression, including application for potential residencies.
Accommodation is provided within 10 minutes’ drive of the practice and remuneration includes a competitive salary, 4 weeks’ vacation and 3 days of CPD.
