PATIENT STORY

Archie’s atlantoaxial subluxation

One-year-old Archie was referred as an emergency one Sunday to Fitzpatrick Referrals’ neurology service.

Little cockapoo, Archie, is rushed in by mum, Lynn, to see Professor Noel Fitzpatrick after crying out with a mysterious neck pain.

The team at Fitzpatrick Referrals diagnose Archie with atlantoaxial subluxation, a neck condition where the first two vertebrae in his neck are partially dislocated. One wrong move from Archie and his unstable bones could sever his own spinal cord and leave him paralysed.

Noel must overcome the weight of fear and expectation as he faces an extremely delicate spinal operation to save Archie’s life and reunite him with his terrified family. It’s a tense and difficult journey for the loveable young pup in what is one of the most emotional episodes of Supervet ER yet.
