Fitzpatrick Referrals’ internship positions are available at our world-class referral centre near Godalming in Surrey, specialising in orthopaedics and neurology.
We provide truly exceptional veterinary care and management options which we believe is what our patients and clients deserve. Interns are pivotal in our care team and undertake supervised rotation through the various areas of the hospital.
Internship candidate criteria
- Membership of The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS)
- Good written and spoken English – must have passed the RCVS English language test (IELTS Indicator test)
- Focus and determination
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong references
- Minimum of one year postgraduate experience in small animal practice or completion of a rotating internship
- Exceptional new graduates may be considered
Interns are expected to play a key role within the clinical care team; having daily involvement in routine and cutting-edge surgery. A structured programme of teaching including presentations, and seminars help augment clinical learning.
State-of-the-art facilities
Fitzpatrick Referrals offers modern surgical suites with advanced equipment for orthopaedic and neurological surgery. These are supported by digital radiography and advanced imaging suites with CT and MRI scanners.
Full-featured anaesthetic monitoring equipment including ECG, pulse oximetry, non-invasive blood pressure, and capnography complement the surgical theatres. A state-of-the-art kinetic and kinematic laboratory allows objective pre and postoperative gait analysis.
Physical rehabilitation facilities include a dedicated physiotherapy area and large hydrotherapy centre with a swimming pool and underwater treadmill. An in-house diagnostic laboratory and advanced therapeutics are also available to further increase the quality of care to our patients.
Career progression
Fitzpatrick Referrals internship programmes will help form an excellent foundation platform for further career progression, including application for potential residencies. For more than a decade we have a proven track record for helping interns achieve residency positions and become boarded surgeons.
Accommodation can be provided (if available) and remuneration includes a competitive salary, 33 days holiday including bank holidays, RCVS registration, VDS membership, three days of funded CPD, pension scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Applicants must be a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and have existing right to work in the UK or be eligible to obtain the right to work in the UK without a Skilled Worker Visa. We are unfortunately unable to sponsor new Skilled Worker Visas for applicants currently outside of the UK.

Fitzpatrick Referrals is located in the southwest of Surrey, just outside the historic market town of Godalming, close to Guildford and the beautiful Surrey Hills with excellent travel links to London which is 40 minutes away by train.
