PATIENT STORY

Eddie’s fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE)

Tiny terrier, Eddie’s peaceful stroll through London’s Hyde Park was shattered when he suddenly cried in pain. Perplexed Dad, Jaz, rushed Eddie to the only man he trusted to look after his best friend, The Supervet, Professor Noel Fitzpatrick.

Struggling to stand unaided on his hind legs, Noel suspects a disc has leaked its pulpy centre, a common problem with the breed, but an MRI scan reveals a far more unusual condition.

It’s a tense few days in the practice as Noel and his team, including neurologist Dr Marc Perez Soteras, try to get to the bottom of Eddie’s pain and get him back on his feet. Following investigations, Eddie is diagnosed with a fibrocartilaginous embolism, a type of spinal stroke.
