Rocco’s total ankle replacement for OCD

Sweet-natured young Rottweiler Rocco is struggling with pain and lameness affecting the ankle (hock joint) of one of his back legs because of a joint condition called osteochondritis dissecans (OCD).

Rocco is unable to walk and run as he would normally, often holding his leg up. Noel and his engineering colleague Jay Meswania have designed a brand-new form of ankle replacement which has the possibility of providing him with a pain-free life on four legs.

But it’s not a straightforward procedure, and Rocco will be the first dog in the world to benefit from this specific implant construct design. It’s called a FitzTAR – Total Ankle Replacement – and it’s a lot more real than an Avatar!

Watch as Noel and his team redefine possibility, using cutting-edge techniques and innovation in this world-first operation.
