Fitzpatrick Referrals Halfway Lane, EashingGodalmingSurreyGU7 2QQGB

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to join our advanced orthopaedic and neurosurgery internship programme with a start date of July 2024.

You must be dedicated to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care as well as committed to furthering your career through improving your knowledge base and technical skills.

Fitzpatrick Referrals is a world-renowned independent ortho-neuro specialist referral centre in Surrey with a proven track record for helping interns achieve residency positions for more than a decade.

The advanced orthopaedic and neurosurgery internship is a fixed one-year position. The successful candidate will work under the supervision and guidance of Professor Noel Fitzpatrick. As an intern you will play an integral role in the day-to-day management of advanced cases; assisting in some of the world’s most innovative and advanced orthopaedic and neurosurgical procedures, some of which are unique to our hospital, helping work up patients, providing world-class in-patient care and communicating regularly with the families of our patients. The programme includes weekly seminars and journal clubs and offers support and encouragement to prepare and publish scientific research during your internship.

We believe that the confluence of a very high caseload, a mixture of routine and advanced neuro and orthopaedic surgery, a fair rota allowing for appropriate study, consistent mentorship and encouragement and a tremendous track record in academic presentations and publications, equips our interns as well as, or better than, anywhere in the world for surgical residency positions. This is evidenced by a very large number of previous interns who have now achieved residencies and become boarded surgeons.

You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Previous experience in small animal practice or an internship is an advantage, but new graduates are actively encouraged to apply, since we consider our programme to provide an excellent footing for any pathway forward in companion animal care.

Applicants must be a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and have existing right to work in the UK or be eligible to obtain the right to work in the UK without a Skilled Worker Visa. We are unfortunately unable to sponsor new Skilled Worker Visas for applicants currently outside of the UK.

We offer a salary of £42,240 for the year and remuneration package including RCVS registration, VDS membership, funded CPD, pension scheme and an employee assistance programme. Offsite shared accommodation is available.

Early applications are welcome and we reserve the right to close for applications before the closing date.
